About Game Builder Garage
The 1984 movie The Last Starfighter tells the story of a teenage boy who is chosen to fight in an interstellar war after proving himself worthy through a high score on an arcade cabinet. Nintendo has done something similar with the Mario Maker series and Game Builder garage. Although Game Builder Garage offers us powerful tools to build our own games, based on my work so far, I doubt Shigeru will be able to visit me and invite me to join his team. It’s amazing that I had already ideas for half a dozen games by the time Game Builder Garage’s seven interactive lessons were over. And the knowledge to build them.
My expectations were that Game Builder Garage would limit the kinds of games you can create. Super Mario Maker is powerful, but it limits your ability to create… Super Mario levels. After completing all lessons, which cover everything from simple “tag” games to complex, fully 3D games that require a lot of work, I realized there is almost no limit to what type of game you could create. Although you can only use the graphics and objects Game Builder Garage provides, the possibilities of how you create and interact with them are limitless. As people continue to come up with innovative ways to create Super Mario Maker levels with Super Mario Maker, Game Builder Garage will allow you to create truly amazing games with its more robust tools and features.
